Project in collaboration with Pemberton Dear, Ltd.

While working at Pemberton Dear, my client GIEvolution asked me to design a one-hand operated video game controller with Gyroscope, Bluetooth chip, and the first ever three-dimensional joystick, which has since been patented. The controller received an award and trophy from the British Institution of Design Engineers.

The controller was modeled using SolidWorks 2006 and rendered in PhotoWorks. It has been printed as SLA in ABS. All moldings were created in consideration of draft angles for tooling. Part of the deliverables were GA and dimensioned drawings.

To test and demonstrate the function of the 3D joystick, I built a test rig. To validate sketch work and ergonomics, I produced more than more than 40 clay models. A program to demonstrate the working prototype via Bluetooth communication was also part of the package.
